Breaking 1,000
1,047. The number of miles I ran in 2020. The highest amount of miles I’ve covered in one year and first time breaking 1,000. With no marathon race day on the horizon, this year gave me space to increase speed in shorter distances, and simpIy find the joy getting out to run. I PR’d in every distance I tried: 5k (in person race, March), 10k (time trial, November), half marathon (virtual race, April). Reflecting on this year of running, the 1000 miles was a clear reminder to me how desperately I need the fresh air. I’m so grateful for the hours spent outside this year.
To celebrate breaking 1,000, I’m eating donuts and making donations to two outdoor organizations who help protect our trails and parks that make these miles so sweet year-round:
- @nycparks most of my miles were logged in the NYC area parks and river parkways in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Yonkers.
- @protectourwinters national org whose mission includes protecting trail erosion from climate change. Penelope & I spent a good amount of our runs on the trails this year, it’s our happy place.
