New York City Marathon: Nov 2017
Can’t stop smiling thinking about how many of my favorite people were in one place on this day. I started the race with a few friends who were also running, and had so many runner groupies: friends and family who either lived in NYC or traveled to be there for race weekend in this big beautiful city, even on a cold rainy day. At the time, I had just finished an intense training season that led to my fastest marathon (3:41:40) a few months prior, so decided to take NYC as a “soak it all in” race with no specific time goal. Between the crowds and the bridges, NYC is not a PR course.
When November rolled around, I was still living in Minnesota, actively searching and interviewing for the job that would bring me back to the northeast. My friend Ally traveled to NYC with me for race weekend, and as we enjoyed our last New York bagel in the LaGuardia airport, I got THE email. The job offer from the recruiter where I had interviewed in Manhattan 2 weeks prior.
Later I would realize that my first apartment was right on the corner of Bedford Avenue, my favorite stretch of the course through Brooklyn (arguably the best cheer zone).
